On using custom-functions.php

When creating themes based off WP Framework, you learned a little bit about the media/directory and the conventions it provides to you when you take advantage of it. By default, WP Framework also provides a PHP file called custom-functions.php located in the media/ directory that’s already included on every page load.

The custom functions file is where you should store all your PHP mods for your theme instead of adding them to the functions.php file (located in the root directory).

If however you need to include additional PHP files, simply add them into the root of your media/ directory and include them from custom-functions.php. By keeping all your PHP files in the media/ directory, not only will those files stay intact during upgrades, but you’ll be able to edit them using the WordPress built-in theme editor.
